Will I fail a drug test if I take CBD oil?
This is a question we literally get on a daily basis, and understandably so.
People are hearing about how wonderful CBD oil can be, but since it’s part of the cannabis plant, people wonder if they’re going to have ‘drugs’ in their system and fail a drug test.
We get it. We actually thought the same thing too when we first started learning about this industry.
Let’s break down the basics of this question to help you understand what might happen when you take CBD oil.
We promise that we will tie in all the information together at the end to answer this question for you.
THC versus CBD
The very first thing you must understand is the difference between THC and CBD.
THC is the compound that gives you the psychoactive effects that makes you ‘high’.
CBD is the compound that does NOT get you high, but has a lot of the medicinal properties we are looking for.
BOTH compounds are found in cannabis plants, whether it’s hemp or marijuana.
The difference is marijuana is typically high in THC and low in CBD. Hemp is almost exactly the opposite where it’s high in CBD and low in THC.
**NOTE: Hemp-derived CBD Oil is legal as long as it has less than .3% THC.
Full Spectrum CBD Oil versus CBD Isolate
Now we have to take it a step further and tell you about the differences between full spectrum and isolate.
The hemp plant has roughly over 100 cannabinoids, but the two most abundant ones are CBD and THC.
CBD oil works best when all the cannabinoids are still present in the oil and not removed. That’s what we call ‘full spectrum’, and you want a full spectrum product.
If you remove all the cannabinoids and just only leave CBD by itself, that’s when you get an ‘isolate’. Bottom line… an isolate doesn’t work nearly as well as full spectrum does.
Extraction Methods Matter
Now that you know you want full spectrum hemp-derived CBD oil, you know have to get a little more ‘geeked out’ about how the CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant.
The reason for that is because some extraction methods leave trace amounts of THC in its full spectrum profile, while others don’t.
The most common extraction method out there today is CO2 because it’s scalable and cost effective.
The downside of CO2 extraction is that it leaves trace amounts of THC in its full spectrum profile, up to the legal limit of .3% THC as noted above.
Ethanol is another extraction method out there that is more costly, but can produce a full spectrum profile AND remove ALL THC in the product.
It’s important to know that cutting edge extraction methods are being developed today that will revolutionize this whole topic, so stay tuned.
So… Will I Fail A Drug Test
The honest answer is there’s no definitive answer… yet.
If you take a full spectrum product that has trace amounts of THC in it, there is a possibility that with heavy and consistent use, there may be enough in your system to trigger a positive.
Let us emphasize the word ‘may’.
On the other hand there are also people out there who say the opposite.
They claim you’d have to take a full bottle a day for 2 months straight to even give you a chance to test positive… and no one is taking a full bottle a day.
We’ve seen some drug test results that didn’t trigger a positive, and they were using a CO2 extracted full spectrum product daily.
So the real question is if you want to take that chance or not.
Wod Recovery Rx Uses An Ethanol Extraction Method
We spent a lot of time learning about all the nuances of this question so you wouldn’t have to.
We decided early on that we had to have a ZERO THC product, but still remain full spectrum because it had to get real results.
There’s a lot of crap product out there and we know this community demands the best.
Our core audience is the Crossfit community, which is made up of military, law enforcement, fire department and many professionals that can’t fail a drug test.
We stand behind this community 100% and wouldn’t do anything to put their careers in jeopardy.
That’s why we went the more expensive route to use an ethanol extraction.
Our COA’s can prove our products are ZERO THC, which is a Certificate Of Analysis in case you were wondering.
If a CBD oil company can’t produce a COA for their products, run the other way as fast as you can.
